NC State starts its 2023 baseball season two weeks from today, opening the schedule with a three-game series against Wagner at home. In the days approaching first pitch, the ACC released its preseason coaches poll, predicting the conference champion and the order of finish in each division.

The Wolfpack was picked third in the Atlantic, tying Florida State with 58 votes and sitting behind first-place Louisville and second-place Wake Forest. Despite its standing in the poll, NC State still received a singular coaches vote to win the division.

Miami was picked to finish first in the Coastal, receiving 10 of the 14 votes cast. Louisville and Wake Forest tied atop the conference champion vote with 6 votes each. Clemson and Virginia Tech also received 1 vote.

Quote of the day

This quote is from class of 2024 offensive lineman Umar Rockhead discussing his recent trip to Raleigh and his thoughts on offensive line coach Garett Tujague.

“NC State went great,” Rockhead said. “I would say the highlights were hearing coach Doeren talk about the football program. The other highlight was when I met coach Tujague and spoke to him, and hearing from the strength and conditioning coaches.

“My first impression of coach Tujague was that he was a pretty nice and energetic guy. I definitely could say that coach Tujague is someone I could see as my coach. I trust his coaching skills.”
