NC State Newsstand: Baseball, women's tennis win again

Saturday saw mostly good results for NC State athletics.
On the baseball diamond, the Wolfpack secured a much-needed series win at Notre Dame. Redshirt junior righty Sam Highfill and freshman lefthanded reliever Dominic Fritton combined for a 5-hitter, allowing just 1 run in a 6-1 win for the Wolfpack.
NC State improved to 31-15 overall on the season and 10-13 in the ACC.
In women’s tennis, NC State is moving on to the Sweet 16. The Pack is the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and fresh off winning the program’s first ever ACC Tournament title. Earning the right to host the regional, the Wolfpack followed up a 4-0 win over South Carolina State but registering a similar sweep over No. 25 Kansas State on Saturday afternoon.
With that victory, NC State moves on to the Sweet 16, which will be in Raleigh next Saturday against Auburn. The Tigers upset No. 14 seed Miami, who had defeated NC State during the regular season.
Also upset Saturday was No. 6 overall seed Duke, who would have been a potential Elite Eight opponent for the Pack.
The negative for the Pack on Saturday was the men’s tennis team fell 4-2 in the NCAA Tournament opening round to Oklahoma in Athens, Ga.

One of the Pack’s top targets on the offensive line is Marcus Mascoll from Atlanta’s South Gwinnett High. He explained to On3’s Chad Simmons why the Pack is likely to get one of 3 official visits in June.
“That’s going to be a part of my consideration for sure,” Mascoll said. “Coach (Dave) Doeren and coach (Garett) Tujague are guys that like to get to know you and build from the ground up. I’m always going to keep them in consideration.”
