College football season is right around the corner and preseason award watch lists are underway. NC State coach Dave Doeren was the first member of the Wolfpack to end up on one by being named to the 2024 Dodd Trophy Presented by PNC Bank Watch List.

The list, which includes 21 of the country’s top college football coaches with all Power Four conferences and an independent represented, honors the coach of a team who is successful on the field while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity.

Doeren enters his 12th season at the helm of the Wolfpack, the second-longest tenured coach in the ACC and the sixth-longest in the FBS. He has helped the Pack to four nine wins seasons in the last seven years, including at least eight wins in six of those campaigns as well. Only Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Notre Dame have done that outside of NC State.

The Pack is also second in the ACC in wins with 23 since 2020, just trailing Clemson’s 26. Doeren has also led NC State to a bowl game in nine of his first 11 seasons in Raleigh.

The award also seeks importance in academics, where the Pack have flourished under Doeren. He has had 66 All-ACC Academic selections, including 13 in 2022 alone. To make the watch list, a team must have an APR higher than 980 and first-year program coaches are not eligible to win the Dodd Trophy.
