NC State men’s basketball is nearing the midpoint of its 2022-23 season, and sophomore superstar Terquavion Smith continues to establish himself as one of the best guards in the ACC. ESPN took notice of his successful second season in Raleigh and listed him as a first-round pick in its latest mock draft.
The article projected Smith as the No. 20 pick to the New York Knicks. He would be the third ACC athletes drafted after Duke’s Kyle Filipowski and Dariq Whitehead.
Not only has Smith continued to produce at the record-setting, All-ACC honorable mention level that he did last year, he has taken a step up. His scoring rose slightly from 16.3 to 17.9, and his assist numbers have skyrocketed from 2.1 to 5.4 per game as the sophomore showcases his abilities as a true point guard. Defensively, Smith is also averaging 1.9 steals per game.
Here’s the mock draft’s full top-20, courtesy of ESPN and On3’s Nick Shultz.

Quote of the day
This quote is from four-star Greensboro (NC) Grimsley High wide receiver Alex Taylor discussing Wolfpack freshman Terrell Timmons Jr., who is from the same city, and his visit plans for NC State.
“Him being from our hometown, seeing him doing what he’s doing, it helped a lot,” Taylor said. “I really love what they’re doing. With the OC leaving, I definitely want to get up there more and see the new offense.”
