It is officially game day-eve for NC State football fans. The Wolfpack will travel to Connecticut Wednesday for the program’s season opening showdown with UConn.
Following some week 0 tilts last week, this matchup will be one of the first games in the first full weekend of college football. Analysts from a variety of local and national outlets predicted the matchup. Going into the game, NC State is a -14.5 favorite.
– Fox Sports: NC State 29, UConn 16
– The Fayetteville Observer: NC State 34, UConn 10
“NC State’s offense will steal the spotlight in the opener,” Rod Baxley wrote. “After only scoring 30 or more points in four games in 2022, NC State will get off to a fast start under offensive coordinator Robert Anae, who helped his offenses average 31.1 points per game the past two seasons.”
– ESPN SP+: NC State 35, UConn 9
– Sports Illustrated’s computer model: NC State has an 84.9 percent chance to win.
The Wolfpack won its 2022 matchup with UConn 41-10. Head coach Dave Doeren emphasized during a press conference that last year does not matter going into Thursday.

“Last year’s games don’t mean anything,” Doeren said. “Last year’s teams don’t win this year’s games. We know UConn is a better football team. We know they’re a different football team. We’re also a different football team, so we’ve got to go prove, whatever the score is, we’ve got to earn that.”

NC State quote of the day
This quote is from Doeren, explaining how defensive lineman Davin Vann earned the No. 1 jersey.
“His daily strain, and the way he plays the game. He plays really, really hard. The impact he has on the line of scrimmage, the disruption that he creates, the way he led in the weight room, he got the summer program award for being the hardest worker, strongest player.”
