NC State graduate quarterback Grayson McCall has not taken an in-game snap for the Wolfpack yet, but he landed himself on another preseason watch list. The Coastal Carolina transfer was named to the Walter Camp 2024 Player of the Year Preseason Watch List on Monday afternoon.

The honor is the fourth-oldest college football individual accolade, and McCall made the list for the fourth straight season. The signal-caller has never won the award, but has consistently been on the committee’s radar.

McCall, a former three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, is the eighth NC State player to make the Walter Camp watch list in program history. He joins Phillip Rivers, T.A. McLendon, Tramain Hall, Mario Williams, David Amerson, Ryan Finley and Devin Leary on the prestigious list.

The Indian Trail, N.C., native was also named to the Maxwell Award Watch List (awarded to the best player in college football) earlier this year, the fifth straight season he earned that honor.

McCall has played in 42 collegiate games with more than 10,000 yards, 88 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Now, he is set to begin his final season of college football in a new uniform for the first time.

The 2024 Player of the Year watch list will be cut down to 10 semifinalists in November and three finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 26. The award recipient, which is voted on by 133 FBS head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced during ESPN’s College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.

Quote of the day

NC State has a lot of high-end talent on its roster, but who are the freak athletes? Ohio State transfer wideout Noah Rogers is one of them.

“As it pertains to just being a freak on the field with some of the things he can do, it’s Noah Rogers,” Burnette said. “He came into our program not having a lot of experience in the weight room, but now since he’s gotten stronger, it’s good to see him out when we’re doing the field stuff.”
