NC State Newsstand: Jacob Cozart continues to rack up preseason All-America honors
NC State junior catcher Jacob Cozart is among the top college backstops in the country, and he continues to receive preseason All-America honors before the Pack’s season opener.
The High Point, N.C., native was named to two more preseason All-America squads earlier this week. He was named a third team preseason All-American by both Baseball America and the NCBWA. Cozart previously earned a first team preseason All-America nod from Perfect Game and a second team honor from D1 Baseball earlier this offseason.
Cozart was a second team All-ACC pick after a standout sophomore campaign last spring. He hit .301 with 10 home runs, 14 doubles, two triples, 42 RBI and 107 total bases. He was a standout in ACC play with 16 extra-base knocks, 21 runs scored, 25 RBI and 62 total bases. Cozart was also a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist, a Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List addition and a Buster Posey Award Watch List player last season.
The catcher is Baseball America’s No. 18 prospect in its Top 100 2024 MLB Draft eligible list, which was released in December. D1 Baseball named him the eighth-best college prospect in this summer’s draft in a September rankings release.
Wolfpack baseball will open the season against VCU on Feb. 16 at Doak Field at Dail Park.

NC State baseball’s pitching staff took a hit with an arm injury to senior right-handed pitcher Matt Willadsen.
Quote of the day
NC State men’s basketball lost a 3-point game while it was just 6-of-15 from the foul line. Wolfpack coach Kevin Keatts was not pleased with that number after the game.
“At the end of the day, we have to make our free throws,” Keatts said. “It’s probably a different outcome, hopefully, if we step up to the line and we make them. But we didn’t. That’s a problem, we’ve got to be able to make our free throws down the stretch.”
