All-ACC guard and former NC State men’s basketball star Jarkel Joiner is ready to take the next step in his basketball career, and he will showcase his skills at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this year. The PIT is a professional basketball showcase that allows some of the country’s top athletes who may not receive an NBA combine invite the opportunity to play in front of scouts.
Joiner was arguably the most valuable player on the Wolfpack roster during the program’s NCAA Tournament run, as the sixth-year senior averaged 17 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, while also converting 35.4 percent of his threes and 85.3 percent of his free throws. Those numbers led to the Ole Miss transfer earning a spot on the All-ACC second team.
Clemson’s Hunter Tyson, Notre Dame’s Nate Leszewski, Wake Forest’s Tyree Appleby and former NC State and Butler big man Manny Bates are also on the PIT roster.
The tournament will be played in Portsmouth, Virginia, and the first game will tip off April 12 at 7 p.m.. All games can be streamed online.

NC State quote of the day
This quote is from quarterback Brennan Armstrong talking about his mindset going into the 2023 season.
“I just feel like I have something to prove,” Armstrong said. “I really wanted to put two great years together, and there’s just a chip on my shoulder and I think this place is the best place for me to prove that.
“There’s a lot of opportunity here. I think the guys, especially on the offensive side, are itching to just be better. I feel like they felt like they didn’t do their part last year, so we’re all in this together.”
