Jonathan Paylor, one of NC State’s top priority recruiting targets for the past couple of years, officially locked in his commitment date Tuesday. The four-star wide receiver will announce his collegiate decision Aug. 5 during a 2 p.m. ceremony at Burlington (NC) Cummings High.

Going into the commitment, his recruitment is down to a top five of NC State, South Carolina, Penn State, UNC and Maryland. Each of those schools hosted him on visits in June. He traveled to see the Wolfpack June 16-18, and that visit went extremely well.

NC State remains solidly in contention as Paylor nears a decision, in large part thanks to his bond with wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, offensive coordinator Robert Anae and head coach Dave Doeren.

“I had a conversation with coach Anae and coach Joker the other day, and they were just talking [about] some amazing things,” Paylor said July 15. “Overall, nothing’s ever promised, but I kind of trust them because I’ve been up there 16, 17 times, so, obviously, I know they’re true to their word.”

The receiver plans on wrapping up his visit schedule with a July 28 trip to the Alpha Wolf Showcase and a UNC visit scheduled for the following day.

Following recent updates across multiple recruiting sites, the On3 Industry Ranking considers Paylor the No. 169 recruit in the country, the No. 28 wide receiver and the No. 4 prospect in North Carolina’s 2024 class. South Carolina leads his Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 74.7 percent.

Linebacker Payton Wilson, quarterback Brennan Armstrong and cornerback Aydan White will represent the Wolfpack at its ACC media day alongside head coach Dave Doeren.

NC State quote of the day

This quote is from Paylor explaining why two schools are standing out in his recruitment.

“I’m still deciding on NC State or South Carolina,” Paylor said. “All of the other schools are still good, but they’re not them two.”
