After a dominant year during his final season at Duke, NC State running back Jordan Waters was named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list, which honors the best tailback in college football annually.

Waters, who logged 153 carries for 819 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago, was one of 15 ACC running backs to make the list. He was fourth in rushing scores, tied for fourth in points by touchdown (72), sixth in yards per rush (5.30) and 10th in rushing (62.75 yards per game) in the ACC last season.

The Fairmont, N.C., native scored at least one rushing touchdown in eight of the Blue Devils’ 13 games a year ago as he tied the program record for fifth in a single season. Waters ended his Duke career with the third-most rushing touchdowns with 23.

The award committee will name ten semifinalists in November and three finalists will be announced later that month. There will then be a second vote to determine a winner, which will be announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12.

Quote of the day

NC State’s running back room is different this year, in a good way, according to Pack offensive coordinator Robert Anae.

“I think more than anything, that room has transformed its attitude,” Anae said. “The attitude of all the players is unselfish and they’re all ready to contribute. That’s not common in running back rooms. It’s hardly that. It’s not like it was last year, no. This year, this group is different in that regard.”
