The time has come to have a discussion about whether or not NC State distance runner Katelyn Tuohy is having the great individual athletic season in school history.

In the fall, Tuohy won the individual national title in a course-record time at the NCAA Cross Country National Championship. Her performance also helped the Wolfpack repeat as team national champions.

Then in the winter during the indoor track season, Tuohy was the ACC Indoor Track Performer of the Year after setting a pair of NCAA records, running the mile in 4:24.26 and the 3,000-meter in 8:35.20. Tuohy would win individual national titles in both the 3000m and 5000m races at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

This past weekend, in just her second event of the outdoor season thus far, Tuohy set the NCAA record for the 5000m while running at the Sound Running On Track Fest in Walnut, Calif. Her time of 15:03.12 is over 17 seconds faster than any other runner this year and broke a mark that was set in 2007.

In her other outdoor race this year for NC State, Tuohy ran the 1500m in 4:08.29, which is also the fastest in the country.

The Athletic’s Grace Raynor tackled a question about why can’t NC State football win an ACC Championship. Many thousand words are used to try to find an answer.

The one commitment thus far for NC State basketball in the 2024 recruiting class is On3 Industry four-star wing Paul McNeil Jr. from Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond Senior, and he had a big shot this weekend for Garner Road.

Former NC State forward Dusan Mahorcic is working on his new destination after entering the transfer portal. Three official visits have been set.

Former All-ACC guard Jarkel Joiner has another NBA workout lined up.

NC State quote of the day

In Grace Raynor’s story on The Athletic, former Wolfpack quarterback Mike Glennon discussed one of the harder parts of understanding the lack of conference titles for the Pack.

“The hard part of being an NC State fan is when you look back, it’s like, for the past two decades, essentially there’s been an NFL quarterback there the entire time. You have Philip Rivers, Russell Wilson, myself, Jacoby Brissett, Ryan Finley, Devin Leary’s got a shot — and there’s been no ACC championships in that period.

“You’re talking about two Hall of Fame quarterbacks (in Rivers and Wilson who) were never able to win an ACC championship. It’s kind of discouraging. So it makes you wonder, ‘What does NC State have to do to get over the hump?’ And I don’t know if you can pinpoint it.”
