NC State Newsstand: Katelyn Tuohy sets NCAA record

NC State cross country and track and field star Katelyn Tuohy made history Saturday at the Dr. Sanders invitational, setting a new NCAA record for the indoor mile at 4:24.26.
According to GoPack.com, she broke the previous record, held by Colorado runner Jenny Simpson since 2009, by more than a second. Tuohy is also the nation’s top 5,000 meter runner right now with a time of 15:15.92, per NC State’s press release.
Last fall, she helped NC State win the women’s cross country team national championship and won the individual title as well. Tuohy set the course record at Oklahoma State’s cross country course, running the 6k in 19:27.7. During the race, she caught Florida runner Parker Valby, who held a lead of nearly 12 seconds at one point.
NC State won the team cross country championship with 114 points. New Mexico scored 140, and Alabama filled out the top 3 with 166 points.

Tuohy continues to cement herself as one of the best collegiate distance runners every. She is the only female athlete to hold a top-10 time in the mile and 5,000 meter race.
NC State pulled off a huge win over No. 7 Notre Dame Sunday afternoon. Star junior guard Diamond Johnson led the team in points, rebounds and assists.
