Katelyn Tuohy continued to cement herself as one of the best colligate distance runners of all time over the weekend. The sophomore ran the 3,000-meter race in 8:35.20 Saturday at the Millrose Games in New York City, New York, setting a new NCAA indoor track record.
When she crossed the finish line, she set a collegiate record for the second time this year, besting the previous mark set by Karissa Schweizer in 2018 by more than 6 seconds. Tuohy competed against professional runners at the meet and finished the race in third— directly in front of former Wolfpack distance runner Elly Henes according to NC State’s press release.
Less than a month ago, Tuohy set a new NCAA record for the indoor mile with a 4:24.26 time at the Dr. Sanders invitational.
According to GoPack.com, the sophomore broke the previous record, held by Colorado runner Jenny Simpson since 2009, by more than a second. Tuohy is also the nation’s top 5,000 meter runner right now with a time of 15:15.92, per NC State’s press release.
Last fall, she helped NC State win the women’s cross country team national championship and won the individual title as well. Tuohy set the course record at Oklahoma State’s cross country course, running the 6k in 19:27.7. NC State won the team cross country championship with 114 points. New Mexico scored 140, and Alabama filled out the top 3 with 166 points.

Quote of the day
This quote is from class of 2024 wide receiver Keenan Jackson recapping his trip to NC State and his conversation with head coach Dave Doeren.
“I talked a lot of recruitment stuff and football stuff with coach Doeren, which was good,” Jackson said. “Obviously, anytime you talk with a head coach or coach that knowledgeable, it’s great just being able to soak up everything they tell you. [Doeren] gave a lot of advice when it comes to just the process. Obviously, they’re recruiting you, but they’re just being straight up and giving just regular advice. That means a lot too.”
