It did not take long for NC State sophomore wide receiver Kevin “KC” Concepcion to claim a weekly ACC award this season. He was named the league’s wide receiver of the week Tuesday afternoon after a standout effort in the Wolfpack’s season opener.

Concepcion caught nine passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Pack over Western Carolina last Thursday night. He tied the program’s single-game record for touchdown receptions by a sophomore (Jerricho Cotchery, Koren Robinson and Tramain Hall did it as well).

And while Concepcion has not recorded a game with just one touchdown reception, he has six career efforts with multiple scores in his first 14 collegiate outings. That is the second-most in program history, only trailing legend Torry Holt, who had seven such games in his four-year career.

This marked Concepcion’s fourth weekly ACC honor dating back to last season, a campaign in which he was named the conference’s rookie of the year by the end of the fall.

Quote of the day

Wolfpack tight end Justin Joly holds himself to a high standard. After he caught five passes for 75 yards against Western Carolina, Joly still was not satisfied.

“Honestly, I thought my game was sub-par,” Joly said.“I feel like I could go out there and do a lot better between blocking, catching the ball and trying to be a great player for my teammates. It’s all about the effort that I give on the field, and I honestly don’t think I gave it my all, so I gotta do better.”
