NC State women’s basketball officially secured a massive addition to its front court Thursday when former Southern Utah transfer Lizzy Williamson signed with the Wolfpack. The 6-5 post player was the WAC defensive player of the year and brings elite rebounding to Raleigh as well.

Williamson committed to NC State May 8, shortly after her official visit with the program wrapped up. She has two seasons of eligibility remaining and is the No. 11 scholarship athlete on the Pack’s 2023-2024 roster.

During her most recent campaign with Southern Utah, Williamson scored 9.6 points per game at a 52.3-percent shooting clip to go along with 10 rebounds an an impressive 77 blocked shots. That rejection total is more than triple any of her new Wolfpack teammates’ 2022-2023 total.

Her 329 rebounds also set a single-season rebounding record for the Thunderbirds— a program that secured an NCAA Tournament birth last season.

“We’re excited to have Lizzy join the Pack,” Wolfpack head coach Wes Moore said in a press release. “I’ve always believed that rebounding is the most important part of the game, and to get someone that averaged double figures on the boards last season is a big addition. At 6-5, she will give us a great presence at both ends of the court on the block. She has also shown the ability to constantly knock down the 15-foot jumper. With Lizzy’s experience and basketball IQ, we’re definitely looking for her to make a big impact in the next couple of years.”

NC State quote of the day

This quote is from class of 2025 wide receiver Arrion Concepcion, talking about NC State and his brother Kevin Concepcion— a standout freshman for the Wolfpack.

“I like their program, and, to see my brother go up there his freshman year already making plays, it means a lot,” Concepcion said. “It gives me motivation. I could come up there and do the same thing.”
