NC State Newsstand: Men's basketball recruiting update
Head coach Kevin Keatts and the rest of the NC State men’s basketball staff is turning towards the Empire State as they try to build the foundation for the program’s 2023 recruiting class. Ty-Laur Johnson, a four-star point guard for Bronx (NY) Our Savior Lutheran, is trending towards the Wolfpack according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.
He provided the latest intel on Johnson’s recruitment Saturday.
“Kevin Keatts and crew came in late, but they came in hot. As the Silas Demary, Jr. recruitment wore down, they went all in with Johnson. Assistant Joel Justus flew up multiple times to see the four-star point guard.
“The system fit is there, as Johnson fits the free-flowing style of play Keatts loves. All returns from the visit check the boxes Johnson was looking for. This would be NC State’s first commitment in the 2023 class.”
Johnson is the On3 Consensus No. 66 recruit in the nation, the top-ranked prospect in New York and the No. 12 point guard in the class of 2023. He took an official visit to NC State Oct. 8 after receiving an offer from the Wolfpack Sept. 24.
