NC State men’s basketball officially added its sixth transfer portal commitment to its 2023-2024 roster Wednesday. The Wolfpack announced the signing of former Stanford point guard Michael O’Connell.

Shortly after visiting Raleigh, O’Connell made his decision public and committed to NC State May 14. Last season, the guard averaged 5.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He has started 76 of 89 games while with the Cardinal.

“I’m excited to add Michael to our program,” head coach Kevin Keatts said in a press release. “Watching tape on him, I see a guy that is highly skilled and plays with a chip on his shoulder and is competitive. He is a selfless player that has shown time and time again that he is going to put the needs of the team ahead of his own. I think he is a great fit for our culture here and will be a great addition to our locker room.”

O’Connell joins an extremely talented transfer class that includes MJ Rice, Ben Middlebrooks, Jayden Taylor, DJ Horne and Mohamed Diarra.

Standing 6-2 and 195 pounds, the junior point guard has two years of eligibility remaining. He shot 37.8 percent from the field last season and 29.7 percent from deep.
