NC State hired offensive coordinator Robert Anae this offseason after the assistant coach spent one season at Syracuse. The year prior, his offense at Virginia was lighting up the ACC as he helped develop Brennan Armstrong into an All-ACC quarterback.
Armstrong entered the transfer portal after the 2022 season and opted to reunite with his former coach in Raleigh, choosing the Wolfpack over Auburn, Oklahoma State and others. This duo was a lethal combination during the 2021 season.
On3’s Mike Huguenin wrote about the impact the impact the former Cavaliers could have in Raleigh— even going as far as to mention ACC title aspirations.
“NC State is hoping an old friend can help Armstrong (6-2, 210). The key numbers: 4,449 and 2,210,” Huguenin wrote. “The first number is the passing yards for Armstrong in 2021, when Anae was his OC. The second number is the passing yards for Armstrong in 2022, after Anae left for Syracuse and a new staff installed a new offense. Armstrong accounted for 40 TDs in 2021 (31 in the air, nine on the ground); that number fell to 13 in 2022, with just seven passing TDs. If Anae can help Armstrong regain his 2021 form, the Wolfpack can contend for the ACC title.”
