TheWolfpacker.com’s Tuesday Morning Newsstand

On3 released its 2023 ACC head coach rankings Tuesday and slotted NC State head coach Dave Doeren at No. 7.

This ranking is despite the Wolfpack head coach winning 72 games over his 10 seasons with the program— the second-highest total in NC State history according to his GoPack.com bio. Doeren is also the second-longest tenured head coach in the conference, trailing only Clemson’s Dabo Swinney.

Here’s On3’s explanation:

Dave Doeren has won at least seven games in eight seasons with the Wolfpack, including an 8-5 record in 2022 that featured wins by four different starting quarterbacks,” On3’s Jesse Simonton wrote.

“NC State has yet to bust through its glass ceiling and compete for an ACC Championship, but perhaps that changes in the near future now that there are no longer divisions in the conference. Under Doeren, the Wolfpack have become one of the better developmental programs in the ACC, with 16 NFL Draft picks since 2018.”

NC State quote of the day

This quote is from elite class of 2025 running back Justin Baker discussing why he is interested in the Wolfpack after a recent visit.

“I feel like NC State is a great fit for me, not just football wise but also off the field, in the way that they prepare their guys,” Baker said March 11. “I’ve had my eyes on them for a while. When I found out that they offered me, and I knew I had a great relationship with some of the coaches up there, I felt like it was a no-brainer for me to come to see the campus [and] see what they were talking about.”
