After a loss to Notre Dame put NC State football on the verge of falling from the top 10, a blowout win over VMI helped the Wolfpack start to climb again in On3’s ACC Power Rankings.

The program defeated the Keydets 45-7, handling the FCS foe before turning its attention to a conference opener against Virginia. Going into that matchup, NC State sits at No. 9 in the ACC power rankings, 1 spot higher than the previous week.

“The Wolfpack took care of business on Saturday against VMI, bouncing back from a tough loss to Notre Dame the previous weekend with a 45-7 victory,” On3 wrote. “Outside of a rough fourth quarter against the Fighting Irish, NC State has looked really good all year.

“The Wolfpack open ACC play this weekend against Virginia as 9.5-point favorites. NC State quarterback Brennan Armstrong, who is also the leading rusher for the Wolfpack, will face his former team in the game.”

Virginia Tech, which ranked in front of NC State last week, fell past the Pack after a loss to Rutgers. UVA sits in last place at No. 14. Louisville will travel to Raleigh next week. The Cardinals are undefeated and sit in the No. 6 spot.

NC State quote of the day

This quote is from quarterback Brennan Armstrong, discussing his return to UVA.

“It’s a cool week for me, going back and playing in Scott Stadium,” Armstrong said Tuesday afternoon. “I think I’ll have a bunch of emotions when I get out there, when we get to the field. I’m just going to refocus and do my job. My job is to go in there and win, right?”
