NC State volleyball picked up a huge win over the weekend at Reynolds Coliseum, defeating No. 5 Louisville 3-1 and securing the Wolfpack’s first ever victory over a top-5 program.

After finishing the 2022 season 16-13, the Pack is off to a blistering 13-2 start this fall that includes a 3-1 run in conference play. That outstanding first half of the season culminated in Sunday’s thrilling win. Per GoPack.com, this is NC State’s first win against a top-25 foe at home and its second ranked win in program history.

Junior Amanda Rice was the Wolfpack’s star of the game. The outside hitter ended the game with a team-leading 16 kills and 4 blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Ava Brizard contributed 14 kills and an ace, and redshirt junior Madison Williams added 11 kills and 2 blocks.

Graduate student setter Kristen McDaniel led the team with 28 assists and 14 digs.

Per NC State, this was Louisville’s first loss to an unranked team since 2019. The Pack won the first 2 sets 25-19 and 25-21. Then, the Cardinals stormed back to take a lead in the third set and recorded its lone win of the match 25-22 despite a Wolfpack comeback attempt.

NC State secured its win in the forth set with an authoritative 25-15 win.

Through 4 matches, the Wolfpack stands No. 4 in the ACC. Up next, the team will travel to play Miami (Oct. 6) and Florida State (Oct. 8) before returning home for an Oct. 13 matchup against Wake Forest.
