Pro Football Focus released its most recent three-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft, and it featured Chandler Zavala as a second round pick. The former NC State offensive guard wrapped up his sixth season of college football in the fall and now continues his rapid climb up draft boards after a great combine performance.

In this mock draft, the Buffalo Bills select Zavala with the No. 59 overall pick. He would be the fifth interior offensive lineman drafted.

“Zavala is one of the steadiest guard prospects in the class even though he played only one full season as a starter,” PFF’s Michael Renner wrote. “The Bills have been searching for answers at guard for a while, and now they’ve found one.”

The former NC State star lineman had an outstanding pro day performance that included 30 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, a 32.5-inch vertical leap and a 5.01-second 40-yard dash. Those results would have all been impressive numbers at the NFL Scouting Combine. Immediately after his stellar outing, he met with the New York Jets.

Wolfpack women’s basketball five-star guard signee Zoe Brooks played with Team USA at the Nike Hoops over the weekend.

NC State quote of the day

This quote is from Pack football head coach Dave Doeren discussing MJ Morris’ performance in the spring game and throughout recent practices.

“We got the run game going which helps all quarterbacks, I think, and then he made some nice throws. I think all three quarterbacks had some tough snap moments, which kind of screwed up their ability to work they needed on certain plays, but MJ has done a good job throughout this spring.

“He’s come in and learned a new system and it’s been fun just to see the chemistry of those three guys. I like how they all work together.”
