NC State Newsstand: QB CJ Bailey named ACC Rookie of the Week
After his most-impressive showing yet, NC State freshman quarterback CJ Bailey was named the ACC’s Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Bailey, a 6-foot-6 signal-caller, was 25-of-36 passing for 306 yards and two touchdowns to pace NC State’s 24-23 comeback win at Cal on Saturday afternoon. The quarterback did not commit a turnover, a key sign of growth, while playing the nation’s leader in interceptions.
The Miami, Fla., native helped pace the program’s fourth-largest fourth-quarter comeback since 2012 after the Wolfpack trailed by 13 going into the final period.
And Bailey earned other national recognition for his play. He was the second-highest graded true freshman this past weekend by Pro Football Focus and On3’s Charles Power ranked Bailey the No. 4 true freshman in college football this weekend.
“Throughout the game, Bailey was able to deliver accurately and into some tight windows while targeting NC State’s talented receiver group,” Power wrote. “The true freshman looks to be gaining confidence each week and has provided some optimism as the Wolfpack looks to have an exciting nucleus of young skill talent.”

Quote of the day
NC State guard Michael O’Connell knocked down one of the biggest shots during the Pack’s postseason run. He is using that confidence to improve for his final season of college basketball.
“I definitely always had that confidence,” O’Connell said. “But when the ball starts bouncing your way, it makes things a lot easier. I would say it’s definitely grown. But the biggest thing for me is to be confident, but humble [while] trying to get better. I have a lot of things to work on, so that’s my biggest focus.”
