NC State Newsstand: Sidney Lowe joins Detroit Pistons coaching staff
Former NC State point guard and head coach Sidney Lowe is set to join the Detroit Pistons’ coaching staff as an assistant, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday night.
Lowe, who helped NC State to the 1983 National Championship, spent the last three seasons as an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers under J.B. Bickerstaff. Lowe’s boss, Bickerstaff, was hired as the head coach in Detroit and the former Wolfpack guard will join him.
This will be Lowe’s third stint on staff with the Pistons. He was an assistant in Detroit for one season before he became the head coach at NC State in 2006. He ended up returning to the Pistons in 2018, where he spent four seasons on staff in his second stint.
In addition to his previous two trips to Detroit, Lowe has spent time with the Minnesota Timberwolves on four occasions, Cleveland Cavaliers twice, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Utah Jazz. He was the head coach of the Timberwolves for one season and the Grizzlies for two seasons.
As an NBA player, Lowe was a second round pick by the Chicago Bulls and he spent time with the Indiana Pacers, Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets and the Timberwolves.

NC State earned a commitment from three-star running back Kentrell Reinhart over the weekend. Here’s a key reason why he picked the Wolfpack.
“I can pick out all of the BS that all of the coaches try to tell you,” Rinehart said. “NC State was legit. They’re real true to their word and all that. I think I had a mind of where I was going probably before I took my OVs but, after I took the last OV, that kind of just closed everything off.”
