For the second straight year, guard Terquavion Smith has been invited to participate in the NBA Draft combine.

The former NC State all-conference performer declared in March that he was leaving the Wolfpack for the professional ranks. A year ago, Smith also entered his name into the draft process but maintained his eligibility. This time, Smith is fully dedicated to pursuing in the NBA.

Smith is hoping to repeat an impressive performance from when he was invited to the combine last year. In the aftermath of a well-received NBA Draft Combine performance, mock drafts were predicting that Smith could be a late first round draft pick before he decided to return to school.

NC State has not had a first round pick since Dennis Smith Jr. in 2017.

In total, 78 players were invited to the combine. The event will take place from May 15-21 at Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis in Chicago.

Tweets of the day

Unsurprising to NC State football fans, Wolfpack defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Tony Gibson made the list of top 10 DC’s in college football, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).

NC State made several offers to underclassmen on Tuesday, including class of 2025 wide receiver Jeffrey Overton from Woodbridge (Va.) Freedom High.

Another went to On3 Industry 4-star linebacker Kamar Archie from Trenton (N.J.) Hun School. Archie is rated the No. 183 prospect nationally in the 2024 class.

Perhaps the youngest player to receive an offer from NC State Tuesday was class of 2026 wide receiver Denairius Gray from Boynton Beach (Fla.) Somerset Canyons. The apparent no-brainer already owns at least 15 Power Five scholarships.

NC State quote of the day

On3 broke down why Gibson was rated in the top 10 by PFF among the country’s top defensive coordinators:

“The Wolfpack had arguably the top defense in the ACC last season, ranking in the top 20 in both scoring defense and total defense. Gibson had a fundamentally sound unit that seemed to always be at the right spot.”
