The Wolfpacker’s Wednesday morning newsstand

NC State’s defense is off to a tremendous start this season, only allowing more than 20 points once through its first 6 games of the year. After recording a second-half shutout against Florida State, defensive coordinator Tony Gibson received some well-deserved recognition from On3 as the ACC coordinator of the week.

“Behind Gibson and his defense, NC State beat Florida State 19-17 despite losing standout QB Devin Leary and only getting 307 yards of offense,” On3’s Matt Zenitz wrote. “The Wolfpack shut out the Seminoles in the second half and ended each of FSU’s last two drives with interceptions. Of the Seminoles’ six second-half possessions, five were either three-and-outs or resulted in turnovers.”

Tweets of the day

NC State women’s basketball traveled to Charlotte for Tuesday’s ACC media day event. Head coach Wes Moore talked about the return of star forward Jada Boyd on the ACC Network.

“When I hit that bad golf shot, which I do quite often, instead of getting upset, I think ‘Ah, Jada’s back,'” Moore said.

Two NC State transfers, Saniya Rivers and Mimi Collins, are both in the top-30 of ESPN’s women’s college basketball transfer rankings.

ESPN’s Seth Greenberg attended one of NC State’s men’s basketball practices yesterday.

He had some nice things to say about La Salle transfer Jack Clark.

After recording 14 total tackles, including 2 for loss, against Florida State, NC State linebacker Drake Thomas received recognition as the Bednarik Award Player of the Week.

Make sure you vote for NC State kicker Christopher Dunn in the Lou Groza star of the week award race. He is a perfect 11-11 to start the season.

The Wolfpack recently extended an offer to Christian Alliegro, a 3-star class of 2023 linebacker from Connecticut.

Quote of the day

This quote is from Dunn, discussing how his 53-yard field goal against Florida State compared to the other huge moments of his career.

“I’d relate it to the thrill of the onside kick,” Dunn said. “I’d say I’d relate it to the 49 at Clemson, I’d relate it to every time I get to go out and kick in Carter-Finley, honestly, and hear all the people cheer. It’s an amazing feeling. The adrenaline rush, it’s unmatched, and I’m just trying to soak up every moment I can with the year I have left.”
