NC State Newsstand: Wolfpack baseball begins season ranked inside Top 25
After NC State made its second trip to the Men’s College World Series in the last four seasons under skipper Elliott Avent, the Wolfpack will begin the season ranked inside the Top 25.
The Pack checked in at No. 13 in D1Baseball’s Preseason Poll, which debuted Monday. NC State was one of seven ACC programs ranked, including one of five inside the top 13 — No. 2 Virginia, No. 6 North Carolina, No. 9 Florida State, No. 11 Duke, No. 14 Wake Forest and No. 15 Clemson.
NC State boasts 20 returning players and 20 newcomers for the 2025 campaign as it looks to get back to Omaha for the fifth time in program history in what will be Avent’s 29th season at the helm.
The Wolfpack’s pitching staff is paced by a young core of talent that was in the bullpen, some of which could see a starting role this spring, in the form of Jacob Dudan, Ryan Marohn, Derrick Smith and Cooper Consiglio. NC State’s bats, meanwhile, are led by catcher Alex Sosa, infielder Luke Nixon and incoming transfers Justin DeCriscio, Ryan Jaros and Matt Ossenfort.

Quote of the day
NC State basketball coach Kevin Keatts said the Wolfpack’s three freshmen could see an increased role sooner than later.
“Those guys are starting to get better in practice,” Keatts said during the ACC’s coaches Zoom call Monday. “With the rotation, we’re getting down to eight guys and there’s going to be one or two of those guys that’s going to play each game. A lot of that is going to be determined by how they practice. Some of it could be matchups.”
