NC State Newsstand: Wolfpack baseball bracketology update
No. 17 NC State is surging towards hosting an NCAA Tournament regional, but for now, the Wolfpack is on the outside looking in. The red and white checked in as a high-ranking No. 2 seed in both Baseball America and D1Baseball’s bracket projections this week.
Baseball America slotted the Wolfpack as a second-seed in the Terre Haute Regional, hosted by No. 12 national seed Indiana State. The Pack was projected to be joined by Cincinnati and Bowling Green in the regional. That pod would be set to face off with the winner of the Fayetteville Regional, hosted by No. 5 national seed Arkansas.
While Baseball America put the Pack in Indiana, D1Baseball projected NC State would play in the Athens Regional, hosted by No. 7 national seed Georgia. The Pack would be the second seed in that pod, alongside UCF and Austin Peay. The winner of that regional would square off with the winner of the Norman weekend, hosted by No. 10 Oklahoma.
Before NC State hears its name called on the selection show on Memorial Day, the Wolfpack has the opportunity to improve its stock. NC State will host No. 8 Wake Forest for a three-game series, beginning Thursday, in Raleigh before it goes to the ACC Tournament in Charlotte next week.

Quote of the day
NC State’s bullpen is “confident” heading into a pivotal weekend series against No. 8 Wake Forest at Doak Field, beginning Thursday.
“It’s really good to see, especially at this point in the season,” sophomore closer Derrick Smith said. “Whoever goes in there, just does their job and gets the ball off to the next guy. Even if you don’t do good, the next guy’s going to pick you up. Just that trust in one another is really big.”
