The Wolfpacker’s Monday Morning Newsstand

Alex Taylor, one of North Carolina’s top class of 2024 recruits, released his top-10 list Christmas Day, shortly after the conclusion of a junior season that included a state championship appearance with Grimsley High. The Wolfpack made the cut, along with several ACC rivals.

NC State hosted Taylor on three unofficial game day visits this fall and welcomed him to campus twice over the summer. The four-star wide receiver also visited Clemson and North Carolina, who also made his top schools list.

His full list also included ECU, Wake Forest, Auburn, Missouri, West Virginia, Penn State and Virginia Tech.

Taylor discussed the Wolfpack earlier this fall after watching the program’s dramatic win over Florida State in October.

“The game was amazing, crowd was great and, even with Devin Leary going down, they still managed to get the W against a tuff team which is super exciting to see,” Taylor said.

The On3 Consensus Ranking considers Taylor the No. 310 prospect nationally, the No. 48 wide receiver and the No. 7 recruit in North Carolina’s junior class. His Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) favors NC State at 42.5 percent.

Grimsley finished the season 15-1 and was undefeated until the Whirlies lost the state championship 40-28 to New Bern.

Quote of the day

This quote is from Hinton sharing his thoughts on Mitchell during his recruitment.

“Through these three weeks, he gave me a crazy vibe that I ain’t really felt from a coach in a while,” Hinton said after his official visits. “I really connected with him fast, and he just keeps building and building it up.

“I feel like coach Mitchell is a great man and a great coach.”
