The Wolfpacker’s Monday Morning Newsstand

NC State women’s basketball continued its winning streak Sunday with a hard-fought 65-57 win over USF. For the second-consecutive matchup, the Wolfpack trailed after the first quarter but quickly rallied to pull of the win.

After falling behind 17-13, NC State outscored the Bulls 21-8 in the second quarter to take a 9-point lead into halftime. That run proved to be the difference as USF played a great second half and kept itself in the game until the final buzzer.

Junior guard Diamond Johnson once again led the Pack in scoring with 14 points, shooting 60 percent from the field, but had to leave the game with an injury that she later confirmed on Twitter is an ankle sprain. Senior wing Jakia Brown-Turner and senior center Camille Hobby each scored in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively.

NC State hit 5 of its 11 three-point shots, and the Wolfpack’s bench outscored the Bulls’ bench 19-3 to help pull off the win. Davidson travels to Raleigh Thursday, Dec. 15, for NC State’s final non-conference clash at 8 p.m..

Tweets of the day

Here’s the tweet from Johnson confirming that her injury was just a sprain.

NC State moved quickly to find a replacement for offensive line coach John Garrison, who accepted the same position at Ole Miss.

The Wolfpack picked up a commitment from junior college defensive lineman Jykeveous Hibbler Sunday. He picked the Pack over Appalachian State, USF and many others.

Wolfpack nose tackle Joshua Harris entered the transfer portal after four seasons in Raleigh.

Guard Chandler Zavala and center Grant Gibson both made Pro Football Focus’ All-ACC team.

Quote of the day

This quote is from NC State tight end commit Javonte Vereen talking about his bond with Wolfpack tight ends coach Todd Goebbel.

“Honestly, I knew from the start that we were going to have a pretty good relationship because me and him just clicked instantly,” Vereen said. “I mean, the first week to a month, we clicked. . .

“We built a pretty strong bond, a trustworthy bond, so that’s the best part about the relationship. We can trust each other.”
