NC State OF Jet Gilliam enters transfer portal

Less than a year after transferring into NC State from the junior college ranks, sophomore outfielder Jet Gilliam has entered the transfer portal, TheWolfpacker.com and On3 have learned.
Gilliam has two years of eligibility remaining after his one season stint with the Wolfpack.
The 6-foot, 176-pound outfielder appeared in 35 games, including seven starts, this spring. He posted a .276 batting average with three doubles, a home run, four RBI, six walks and six strikeouts in 29 total at-bats.
Gilliam was frequently used as a late-game substitute to bring speed to the base paths. He had 20 appearances without an at-bat, including his final eight as a member of the Pack. Gilliam scored 11 runs and was 0-for-1 on stolen base attempts during the 2025 campaign.
Additionally, Gilliam had just eight games with more than one at-bat, his most-recent was an 0-for-2 showing at the plate in his final start on April 6 against Virginia. He was pinch-hit for in the seventh by freshman Brandon Novy, who walked in the Pack’s 9-8 victory over the Cavaliers.
Gilliam arrived at NC State from the College of Southern Nevada last August. He was expected to compete for a starting outfield spot with the Wolfpack, but was the odd man out. With all three starting outfielders — left fielder Josh Hogue, centerfielder Ty Head and right fielder Brayden Fraasman — expected to return for the 2026 season, it appeared Gilliam would be on the outside looking in again.

The Henderson, Nevada, native was a standout player at the junior college level. He posted a .348 average with six doubles, six triples, six home runs and 43 RBI in 51 appearances (50 starts) as a freshman. He was also 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts during the 2024 season at the College of Southern Nevada.
Although he had high potential, it was tough for Gilliam to crack NC State’s lineup on a consistent basis. Now, he’s looking for a new home to continue his baseball career.
Gilliam joins NC State left-handed pitchers Eli Pillsbury and Jacob Dienes, as well as sophomore outfielder Jake Bechtel, as transfer portal entries this offseason.
