The first coach Brandon Chambers ever met in his basketball journey was Will Wade. Now, he will continue to work alongside the 42-year-old head coach at NC State as one of the Wolfpack’s full-time assistants, the program announced Monday morning.

“I’m excited to add Brandon to my first staff at NC State,” Wade said. “I’ve known Brandon for 15 years and he is one of the brightest young coaches in the game. He has the ability to recruit high level talent and also possesses a great ability at teaching the game, especially defensively, which he will specialize here at NC State.”

The two worked together at LSU for one season and spent the past two years at McNeese. Chambers was key in the Cowboys’ 58-11 record with two Southland Conference Tournament titles over the past two seasons.

Chambers served as interim head coach during Wade’s 10-game suspension at McNeese, including his first-ever win over VCU, his alma mater.

As a defensive coach, Chambers was in charge of running McNeese’s defense over the past two years. He helped mentor two-time Southland Defensive Player of the Year Christian Shumate over the last two campaigns.

Before his time at McNeese, Chambers was at Texas Southern during the 2022-23 and 2019-21 seasons. He helped guide the Tigers to a pair of SWAC Tournament championships and was a part of the program’s second NCAA Tournament win.

In addition, Chambers was on staff at LSU in the 2021-22 season, helping develop NBA First Rounder Tari Eason. Before that, he was Nevada’s director of basketball operations for three seasons under coach Eric Musselman.

Chambers, like Wade, rose into the coaching ranks as a student manager. He was on staff at VCU, where the Rams went to the Final Four during his senior year in 2011 while Wade was a full-time assistant with the program.
