The NCAA has officially approved Dawson Jaramillo’s eligibility waiver for the 2024 season, per multiple sources. He will play a seventh year of college football after transferring from Oregon to NC State just over one year ago.

There was always optimism around the program that the graduate offensive lineman’s medical redshirt waiver would be approved, but the Wolfpack has now officially received confirmation that he will be eligible this fall. He signed scholarship papers earlier this year and plans on playing after rehabbing his knee injury.

Jaramillo will provide key depth across the line and could also challenge for a starting job at guard. He is officially listed on NC State’s roster at 6-5, 305 pounds.

The following is from TheWolfpacker.com’s original Jan. 15 report on Jaramillo’s waiver.

Jaramillo sustained a knee injury prior to the start of the regular season, so the former Oregon transfer has not appeared in a game with the Wolfpack. He seemed to indicate his return in a Jan. 8 tweet, and TheWolfpacker.com can now confirm that the experienced lineman will be eligible for the 2024 season. NC State applied for the medical redshirt waiver during the fall.

After spending the Pack’s 2023 campaign rehabbing his injury, Jaramillo provides an immediate boost to the program’s offensive line room. He has the ability to play all five positions. Jaramillo adds versatility and depth to a Wolfpack line that returns four of its five starters this fall. NC State also secured transfer commitments from offensive lineman Valen Erickson and center Zeke Correll

The lineman joined the Pack during the 2022 winter transfer window, enrolling in January and choosing to play his final season of college football with NC State. In an interview with TheWolfpacker.com, he explained why he chose to move across the country to wrap up his collegiate career.

“I just really liked how important football is down there,” Jaramillo said. “With the Research Triangle, they were telling me that NC State’s the football school and how bought-in the fans are and how every game is sold out. I really enjoyed the people there.

“I’m from Oregon and obviously played there. I love it, and I’m thankful that I grew up here and then got to play, but I just want to try something different. I’ve been to the south a few times visiting, and I just really liked the atmosphere and the culture over there and the people.”

Jaramillo played both left and right tackle for Oregon during the 2022 season. Per Pro Football Focus (PFF), he saw the field for 77 snaps and recorded a 68.9 season-long grade (average is around 64.0). He played 329 snaps in 2021 based on PFF snap totals, lining up at every position except center.

A former 4-star recruit, the Lake Oswego, Ore., native was the No. 272 overall player and the No. 19 offensive tackle in the class of 2018.
