Paul McNeil Jr. is one of the top 2024 prospects in the nation.

It’s February, which means the high school basketball regular season is coming to a close around the country. And with that comes a new set of On3’s 2024 Top-150 recruiting rankings.

This is the first update in the rankings since November, which occurred at the beginning of the recruits’ senior year. In the previous update, NC State had a pair of signees inside the top-100, but now, that number is one.

Paul McNeil, a 6-foot-6 small forward out of Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond High, rose to No. 48 in the updated rankings after he checked in at No. 62 before the season began. On3 is the highest on McNeil out of the four major recruiting services, and it made his industry ranking jump five spots to No. 54.

McNeil’s rise in the rankings comes after he set the all-time North Carolina High School Athletic Association single-game scoring record with a 71-point performance on Jan. 16. He was a McDonald’s All-American Game nominee this season, and he boasts a Gatorade Player of the Year award from his sophomore year.

While McNeil shot up the charts inside the top-50, Trey Parker fell outside of the top-100 in this rankings update. He fell from No. 86 to 134 in the new set of rankings, while his On3 Industry Ranking fell from No. 93 to 115.

Parker, a 6-foot-1 combo guard that went back to Atlanta (Ga.) Overtime Elite for another year, is averaging 9.9 points with 4.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game with the OTE Cold Hearts this season.

NC State’s signing class fell from No. 26 to 29 in On3’s Class of 2024 Industry Team Rankings.

Scouting the signees

Paul McNeil:

“Paul McNeil is a lengthy wing,” On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote. “He has a natural feel for scoring the ball. McNeil plays with the utmost confidence and is best in the mid-range. He has a slight hitch in his three-point shot that can get him off at times. McNeil lacks explosive burst but can get to his spots, going right. He is a good area rebounder and an active wing defender. McNeil was North Carolina’s first sophomore to win Gatorade Player of the Year.”

Trey Parker:

“Just go on Youtube and type in Trey Parker Dunk Contest,” Shaw wrote as he called Parker one of the most explosive players in the 2024 class. “You can click on any link that pops up, they will all be the same. He is an acrobat in the air, and he uses his long arms and springy bounce to get high above the rim. While Parker is most known for his dunking, he is more than just that. He is a smooth jump shooter with deep range, and he also has nice vision out of the pick-and-roll. That said, go on Youtube and watch a couple of highlights.”
