NC State’s New Year’s Eve got a little more interesting on Sunday when Ohio State wide receiver Noah Rogers entered the transfer portal just after 8 p.m. ET.

Rogers, a former five-star recruit out of Rolesville High, was On3’s No. 1 ranked player in North Carolina in the Class of 2023. He signed with the Buckeyes over Clemson, NC State and North Carolina out of high school. NC State is expected to be an interested team for Rogers in the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-2, 201-pound wideout did not record a catch in four games (12 total snaps) with Ohio State. He enrolled early with the Buckeyes after he starred at Rolesville, where he had more than 3,200 receiving yards in his four varsity seasons.

Rogers caught 39 passes for 799 yards and 15 touchdowns during his senior season, and he had 70 receptions for 1,430 yards and 22 scores in his breakout junior campaign at Rolesville.

On3’s scouting report of Rogers out of high school

“Athletic pass-catcher who is one of the more productive receivers in the 2023 cycle. Had a fantastic junior season with 1,430 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns while averaging over 20.5 yards per catch. A twitchy, bouncy athlete who shows the ability to get vertical with ease due to his long speed. Shows some springy tendencies and comes down with acrobatic, high-point grabs.

“Also capable of taking short passes or end arounds to the house. Validates his athleticism in the combine setting, where he’s one of the more athletic top receivers in the cycle. Can continue to improve on routes and change of direction. Has solid to good ball skills but can continue improving in that regard.”

Social media reacts to Rogers’ portal entry

The wideout’s entrance into the transfer portal made social media a blaze before the ball dropped in New York City, including several of his former teammates from Rolesville, who are now a part of the Wolfpack football program.
