NC State QB Grayson McCall listed 'day-to-day' with undisclosed injury, CJ Bailey to start at Clemson
NC State graduate quarterback Grayson McCall is listed “day-to-day,” Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren said Monday in his weekly media availability. Freshman quarterback CJ Bailey will start at Clemson this weekend.
“Grayson got dinged up,” Doeren said. “It’s good news on him. … We’re going to take our time, and when he’s ready, he’ll be ready. CJ’s ready to play and he’s our quarterback until that happens. And we’re behind him.”
McCall, a Coastal Carolina transfer, left Saturday’s 30-20 win over Louisiana Tech in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury. He was ruled out for the rest of the game soon after. McCall was 9-of-13 passing for 54 yards, with 4 carries and 22 yards on the ground before he departed the game.
After McCall left the game, Bailey entered in relief. He was 13-of-20 passing for 156 yards with another 27 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
McCall, an Indian Trail, N.C., native, was 50-of-75 passing for 476 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions through the first three games of the season. He also added 18 carries for 44 yards as a running threat.

Before he arrived in Raleigh, McCall threw for 10,005 yards with 88 touchdowns and just 14 interceptions during his five-year career at Coastal Carolina. During his time with the Chanticleers, McCall was a three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, the first to ever do that in league history.
McCall impressed the Wolfpack coaching staff and its players with his accuracy on the practice field during fall camp, taking care of the football with ease. He was estimated to have thrown no more than two interceptions during the entire month by those who have seen him on the training ground.
But for now, NC State will lean on Bailey to lead the Wolfpack to begin its ACC slate this weekend at Clemson.
Note: Doeren said starting cornerbacks Aydan White and Brandon Cisse are both expected to play at Clemson. White missed the Louisiana Tech win with an undisclosed injury, while Cisse departed the game early with an injury. Both are officially “day-to-day.”
