NC State S KJ Martin can finally learn from DC Tony Gibson
As a three-star recruit out of Charleston (W.Va.) Capital High School, KJ Martin was sold on playing in Tony Gibson’s 3-3-5 defense as a safety at West Virginia. But just about a week after he arrived on West Virginia’s campus as an early enrollee in January 2019, Gibson left the Mountaineers for NC State. So, Martin never got to play in the system that he thought he was going to out of high school. Fast forward five years, and two schools for Martin, and the safety finally got to experience what it is like to play for Gibson. He transferred to NC State in May and arrived for summer workouts. Now, in fall camp, Martin has been able to see a different side of Gibson. Not the recruiting version, no, but the hands-on, brilliant defensive mind that he has.
