NC State sophomore TE Juice Vereen to enter transfer portal
NC State tight end Juice Vereen will enter the transfer portal when it opens Dec. 9, per On3’s Pete Nakos. The former four-star recruit spent two seasons in Raleigh before deciding to depart after appearing in 4 games this fall.
He is the sixth member of the Pack to hit the portal and the first tight end.
Vereen saw the field for a total of 35 snaps as a sophomore. He was one of the Wolfpack’s first commits in the 2023 class and a vocal recruiter for the program. Standing 6-4, 214 pounds, the versatile pass catcher was Justin Joly’s backup at the flex-y spot.
He logged 18 snaps against Western Carolina in the season opener and 14 against Tennessee. Vereen did not play the next two weeks, logged a total of 3 snaps between Weeks 5 and 6 and did not play again. When he enrolls with a new program, the former Havelock (N.C.) High star will be a redshirt sophomore.
During his freshman season, Vereen played an inconsistent role over 10 games. He saw the field for as many as 38 snaps in one game and as few as 0 in others. The tight end recorded 4 career catches with the Wolfpack, all in one game against Notre Dame, for 65 yards.
Running backs coach Todd Goebbel was his primary recruiter coming out of high school when the Wolfpack assistant was the program’s tight ends coach. They built a strong connection which helped lead to Vereen’s commitment early in the cycle.

“Honestly, I knew from the start that we were going to have a pretty good relationship because me and him just clicked instantly,” Vereen said as a recruit. “I mean, the first week to a month, we clicked. . .
“We built a pretty strong bond, a trustworthy bond, so that’s the best part about the relationship. We can trust each other.”
Vereen was the No. 319 recruit in the 2023 class, the No. 18 tight end prospect nationally and the No. 10 recruit in North Carolina. Joly is now the only flex-y tight end on the roster, with freshman Preston Douglas joining for the 2025 season.
