The 2023 regular season is over, and the transfer portal is in full swing ahead of its official open date on Monday. NC State had 12 players transfer out of Raleigh after last season and find new homes.

Here’s a look at how those players did at their new programs:

Offense

QB Devin Leary: Kentucky

Leary started all 12 games at quarterback for the Wildcats this season. He was 193-for-343 passing for 2,440 yards with 23 touchdowns and 10 interception in his first year in the SEC.

The Sicklerville, N.J., native threw for a season-high 372 yards in the Wildcats’ 33-27 loss to then-No.21 Tennessee, which also included two touchdown passes. He also led Kentucky to a 38-31 win over No. 10 Louisville in the regular season finale to help the Wildcats improve to 7-5 this fall.

Leary logged 39 carries for -55 yards on the season and he recorded a rushing touchdown in the Wildcats’ 38-21 loss at Missouri. He has the option to pursue a medical redshirt for one more year of eligibility.

QB Ben Finley: Cal

After he led NC State over North Carolina in double-overtime a year ago, Finley landed at Cal through the transfer portal. Finley arrived at Cal and joined a quarterback competition that he lost to Sam Jackson V.

Jackson was injured in the Golden Bears’ opening game at North Texas this season, which allowed Finley to enter in his place. He was 24-of-34 for 289 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the team’s 58-21 win.

Finley then started the next week at Auburn, but was 7-of-11 for 31 yards before Jackson was inserted back into the lineup. The former Wolfpack quarterback earned his second start at Washington two weeks later, but was 17-for-32 for 207 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in a 59-32 loss.

He did not start again and played at the end of the Utah and Stanford games this season after redshirt freshman Fernando Mendoza earned the starting job following another injury to Jackson.

Finley announced his intention of going back into the transfer portal when it opens next week.

RB Demie Sumo-Karngbaye: Kentucky

The 6-foot, 210-pound running back recorded 20 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown, while he caught 14 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown as a reserve for the Wildcats.

Sumo-Karngbaye had a dropoff in his production from last season at NC State where he had 55 carries for 305 yards and three scores with 12 receptions for 148 yards and a touchdown.

He has one year of eligibility remaining with the Wildcats.

WR Devin Carter: West Virginia

Carter left Raleigh for Morgantown, W.Va., and he had a somewhat productive redshirt senior season with the Mountaineers. The Clayton, N.C., native caught 27 passes for 501 yards and two touchdowns in his first year at West Virginia.

The wideout logged one 100-yard game in West Virginia’s 41-39 loss at Houston — five receptions for 116 yards. He scored touchdowns against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma this season.

Carter played in all 12 games and he recorded at least three receptions in six of the Mountaineers’ games.

WR Jasiah Provillon: Campbell

After Provillon played in 30 games across five seasons with the Wolfpack, he transferred to FCS Campbell for the 2023 season.

Provillon played in 10 games with the Camels this season, and he recorded a catch in four contests. The wide receiver finished the season with four receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown — which he scored against Maine in mid-October. Provillon logged his longest catch — a 16-yard reception — in the Camels’ 28-14 win at North Carolina A&T.

OT Thornton Gentry: App State

Gentry played in one game with the Wolfpack before he transferred to Appalachian State. In his first season with the Mountaineers, Gentry logged 322 snaps as he played left tackle in App State’s final seven games of the season.

The offensive lineman had his best performance against Georgia Southern, where he posted an 82.3 PFF offense grade. He finished the season with a 49.6 overall mark from PFF.

Defense

DL Joshua Harris: Ole Miss

After Harris played in 38 games at NC State, he transferred to Ole Miss. He played in eight of the Rebels’ 12 games this season for his senior campaign and he logged 13 total tackles, including four solo stops.

Harris had a season-best four tackles in Ole Miss’ 38-35 win over Texas A&M at the beginning of November.

DE Zyun Reeves: Louisiana Tech

Reeves did not see any game action with the Bulldogs in his redshirt sophomore season.

He only played in two contests in two years with the Wolfpack, which included a redshirt during his freshman campaign as he recovered from a high school injury.

DE Claude Larkins: Florida International

Larkins played in eight games with the Panthers this season. He logged three total tackles, including a solo stop in the team’s season opener at Louisiana Tech.

The defensive end also posted two quarterback hurries, including one at Arkansas in late-November.

CB Joshua Pierre-Louis: Iowa Western Community College

Pierre-Louis played in 11 games at Iowa Western this fall. He logged 35 total tackles with 2.5 tackles for a loss and six interceptions with the Reivers in his first season outside of Raleigh.

The cornerback had a season-best eight tackles at Hutchinson Community College on Nov. 11, where he also logged an interception and a pass breakup.

S Chase Hattley: Campbell

Hattley spent two seasons in Raleigh before he transferred to Campbell. He played in two games and recorded four total tackles with the Camels.

The safety played in the season opener against William and Mary and then appeared in the Camels late-October contest against Maine.

S Jalen Frazier: UNLV

After Frazier appeared in 10 games with the Wolfpack last fall, he did not appear in a game at UNLV this season.
