Following an offseason of massive turnover to both the coaching staff and roster of the NC State men’s basketball program, the Wolfpack has settled into summer workouts with a nearly-full roster. As the newest members of the team arrive on campus, NC State has updated its online roster with seven newcomers included.

A total of four transfers bring their years of experience to what is otherwise a fairly youthful Wolfpack squad. Other than the four graduate transfers, seven members of the roster are sophomores or younger. This group of underclassmen is headlined by star sophomore guard Terquavion Smith, who opted to return to NC State earlier this summer after going through the NBA draft process.

During the summer, the Wolfpack will be looking to find ways to replace the production of All-ACC guard Dereon Seabron, who led NC State in points, rebounds, assists and steals per game in 2021. The incoming group of transfers will be a crucial part of doing so. The Wolfpack still has one open scholarship, but it is possible that that spot could remain open this season.

Updated information on NC State’s four new transfers

Jarkel Joiner

Last School: Ole Miss

Jersey Number: 1

Height and Weight: 6-1, 180 pounds

Jarkel Joiner is a dynamic scorer who followed first-year assistant coach Levi Watkins from Ole Miss to NC State. In 22 games, he scored 13.2 points per game and added 2.3 assists per game for the Rebels. Terquavion Smith said recently that he and Joiner are already starting to form a bond during summer workouts.

Seabron wore No. 1 last year.

Jack Clark

Last School: La Salle

Jersey Number: 5

Height and Weight: 6-8, 200 pounds

Jack Clark is one of the most intriguing incoming transfers for NC State. He’s a versatile wing who averaged 12 points and almost six rebounds per game. At 6-8, he will add some dynamic versatility on both ends of the floor. He will now sport the No. 5 jersey for NC State, previously worn last year by Thomas Allen who transferred to Ball State

DJ Burns Jr.

Last School: Winthrop

Jersey Number: 30

Height and Weight: 6-9, 275 pounds

DJ Burns Jr. arrives at NC State as the reigning Big South Conference Player of the Year after averaging 15 points and 4.5 rebounds per game at Winthrop. He will provide a polished scoring touch for the Wolfpack while wearing the No. 30 jersey.

Dusan Mahorcic

Last School: Utah

New Number: 11

Height and Weight: 6-10, 225 pounds

Following a 2021 season averaging 5.5 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game with Utah, Dusan Mahorcic transferred to NC State, adding more size and experience to the Wolfpack roster. Mahorcic will wear the No. 11 jersey worn last year by Jaylon Gibson, who transferred to Winston Salem State.

Three freshmen join the Pack

In addition to the transfers, NC State added former three-star guard LJ Thomas, who signed with NC State last year and is the only freshman on scholarship this year. Thomas, who attended Bull City Prep, will wear No. 4.

KJ Keatts and Jordan Snell also joined the program this year. Keatts played his high school basketball at Grace Christian School and is the son of head coach Kevin Keatts. He will wear the No. 13 jersey. Snell, who played at Panther Creek High School, rounds out the group of newcomers, suiting up with No. 22.
