NC State women’s basketball rang in the New Year with a 72-61 win at Virginia to open ACC play on New Year’s Eve in Charlottesville. Less than 24 hours later, the Wolfpack maintained its No. 3 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 on Monday afternoon.

The Wolfpack are 13-0 for the third time under coach Wes Moore, which included an unblemished non-conference slate with a pair of top-three wins: then-No. 2 UConn and then-No. 3 Colorado.

NC State is No. 3 for the fifth straight week after it began the season unranked. It only trails No. 1 South Carolina and No. 2 UCLA in this week’s poll. That trio of programs are three of the six remaining undefeated teams in Division I women’s college basketball.

The Gamecocks led all teams with 34 first-place votes and 874 points, while the Bruins had one first-place vote and 839 points. The Wolfpack checked in with 784 points and are 30 points ahead of No. 4 Iowa.

NC State will face a pair of ranked teams this week in ACC play. The Pack will host No. 22 Florida State on Thursday night at Reynolds Coliseum before traveling to No. 13 Virginia Tech on Sunday.

The Wolfpack won 11 of its first 13 games by double digits, including its fifth undefeated non-conference schedule in program history.
