NC State women's basketball receives No. 1 seed but challenging draw
For the second consecutive year, NC State women’s basketball has earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
But its reward was a tough draw.
After successfully pulling off a three-peat of the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C., with three double-digit wins, NC State enters the Big Dance with a 29-3 overall record. This year, it aims to go beyond the Sweet 16, where the Pack has seen its season end in each of the past three trips to the NCAA Tournament.
NC State is the top seed in the Bridgeport, Conn., region. That was unsurprising given that top-ranked and No. 1 overall seed South Carolina was locked into the Greensboro region. The biggest question for NC State was would the Pack potentially have to face a road game with Connecticut.
The answer is yes. The Huskies were awarded the two seed in the Bridgeport region. Connecticut has never lost a game in its home state in the NCAA Tournament (44-0) and made the Final Four a year ago.
However, that is not the lone potential challenge in the region. Indiana, which defeated NC State in the Sweet 16 a year ago, is the three seed. The Pack defeated the Hoosiers in a rematch road game this season, 66-58.

Notre Dame, the lone ACC team to beat NC State this season, is the five seed, and SEC champion Kentucky, which upset South Carolina in the conference tournament finals, is the six seed.
The Pack will host its first two games at historic Reynolds Coliseum, starting Saturday with the winner of a first-four game between Longwood and Mount St. Mary’s.
The winner of that game will face Washington State or Kansas State in the second round. NC State defeated Kansas State in Reynolds earlier this season, 90-69. The Pack also knocked off Washington State by 28 points, 62-34, in the Bahamas.
Game times have not been announced.
