NC State’s Vince Robinson (125 pounds) and Isaac Trumble (heavyweight) both went 2-0 on the first day at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships and will be in quarterfinal action Friday. In addition, three Wolfpack wrestlers are still alive in the consolation rounds.

As a team, NC State sits in a tie for 13th place after Thursday’s opening bouts.

In one of the most dynamic matches of the first day of action, No. 4 seed Robinson used a takedown with just one second left to earn his spot into tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

In his second round battle against Princeton’s No. 13 seeded Marc-Anthony McGowan, Robinson found himself in a 4-0 hole going into the third period.

Robinson got an escape to start and forced three stall calls to pull the score to 4-3 with 28 seconds left.

One final restart with nine seconds left, Robinson used a duck-under move and converted the winning takedown with just one second left in the bout.

Robinson will face No. 12 seed Dean Peterson of Rutgers in the quarterfinals. Peterson scored a pin over returning national champion Richard Figueroa of Arizona State. Robinson and Peterson faced off in the NC State-Rutgers dual earlier this year, but Peterson was forced to injury default during that match.

Robinson opened his day with bonus points, scoring a 12-1 major decision over No. 29 seed Joey Cruz of Iowa.

Trumble joined Robinson in the quarterfinals after avenging a loss he took at the ACC Championships, downing No. 10 seed Dayton Pitzer of Pitt, 5-2. Trumble scored the bout’s lone takedown in the first period and used a third period ride out to gain the win over the 2025 ACC champion.

In tomorrow’s quarterfinals, Trumble will face No. 2 seed Wyatt Hendrickson of Oklahoma State for the third time this year. Hendrickson won both previous match-ups, a fall at the Cliff Keen in Las Vegas and a decision in the NC State-Oklahoma State dual in early January in Stillwater.

The Pack also has three wrestlers still alive in the consolation brackets: Ed Scott (157 pounds), Matty Singleton (174) and Dylan Fishback (184).

Two-time All-American Kai Orine’s NC State wrestling career came to an end, as he went 0-2 on the day at 133 pounds. He fell to 2024 All-American Shawver of Rutgers in OT, 4-1, in the consolation round.
