NC State wrestling takes third at ACC Championship

DURHAM — For the first time in the last seven years, NC State did not bring home the team trophy at the ACC Wrestling Championship inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. Virginia Tech lead throughout the day and captured the 2025 ACC Championship with 91.5 points, Pitt was second with 63.5 points, and the Pack placed third with 62.5 points.
Seven NC State wrestlers also earned automatic NCAA bids with their performances today and will advance to Philadelphia March 20-22. The Pack will have to wait on the announcement of the at-large bids for the remaining three, which will be announced along with the NCAA Championship brackets on Wednesday.
Matty Singleton won his first career ACC title, as he took top honors at 174 pounds avenging another dual loss from earlier in the season. He took out Pitt’s Augustine in the final, 5-1. After a scoreless first, Singleton start the second on top and turned him for a four-point near fall which decided the match.
Ed Scott was going for a third career ACC title at 157 pounds, but was stopped in the title bout by top seed Rafael Hipolitio of Virginia Tech, 7-3.
For the second straight year, Dylan Fishback placed second at 184 pounds, falling in the final to top seed Pitt’s Heller in OT, 4-1.
At the lower weights, both Vince Robinson (125 pounds) and Kai Orine (133) placed second.
Koy Buesgens placed third at 149 pounds, while Derek Fields was fourth at 165 pounds.
The biggest news of the day was heavyweight Isaac Trumble being forced to injury default out of action due to a knee injury he suffered in the Pack’s last dual of the season at Virginia Tech. The ACC’s top seed was sporting a knee brace and was limited in mobility and dropped his semifinal bout with Pitt’s Pitzer, 4-1. Trumble will receive an at-large bid to NCAAs, but with two losses today his seeding will be affected.
Two Pack wrestlers earned their NCAA Championships bids in the consolation semifinals. Buesgens took out former All-American Jaden Abas of Stanford with a takedown in OT, 4-1, while Fields earned his bid with a 5-2 win over Pitt’s Jared Keslar.
