NC State’s Hakim Karamoko, Donavan Phillip selected in MLS SuperDraft
After NC State made its deepest run in the NCAA Tournament since the 1991 season to the third round, the Wolfpack had two players selected in Friday’s MLS SuperDraft.
Sophomore winger Hakim Karamoko was selected 10th overall by DC United, while sophomore forward Donavan Phillip went to the Colorado Rapids with the 62nd pick, the second selection of the third round.
Karamoko, who was the first ACC player taken in the draft, led the Wolfpack’s goal scorers with seven this season. He was also second on the team in points (16) and shots taken (45), third in shots on goal (16) to go with two assists this past fall.
The New York, N.Y., native was key for the Pack throughout the season. Karamoko had a three-game scoring streak in clutch times for the Pack in October. He scored the only goal in a 1-1 draw against No. 21 Hofstra before he added a goal against No. 10 SMU and a game-deciding brace against William & Mary on Oct. 23.
Karamoko was an ACC All-Freshman Team selection in 2023 before he made the league’s second team in his second season on campus. Karamoko logged 13 total goals through his first two campaigns with the Wolfpack, while he totaled 1,593 minutes in the process.

Phillip, meanwhile, was second on the team with six goals and 45 shots attempted, 19 on goal and four assists in 19 appearances this season. He was key in NC State’s deep run through the NCAA Tournament as Phillip scored the first in a 2-1 win over Charlotte before he added the insurance tally in NC State’s 2-0 win over No. 4 Georgetown in the second round.
The Castries, Saint Lucia, native was a transfer from Oakland, where he scored five goals with seven assists in 19 starts as a freshman in 2023.
NC State men’s soccer finished the 2024 campaign with a 10-5-5 record under first-year coach Marc Hubbard. The Wolfpack’s .625 winning percentage was the squad’s best mark since the 2009 team posted a .652 number.
