Packed recruiting intel: NC State to host five-star wide receiver Tuesday
NC State will host Mike Matthews on an unofficial visit Tuesday afternoon, a source informed TheWolfpacker.com Tuesday morning. The five-star wide receiver does not hold an offer from NC State yet, but it would not be surprising to see that change during his trip to campus.
Georgia, Alabama, USC and Clemson have all extended scholarships, and the On3 Industry Ranking considers Matthews the No. 8 recruit in the nation.
He will be on campus with a couple of his Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview High teammates as well. Class of 2024 four-star cornerback Jalyn Crawford and class of 2026 safety Zelus Hicks are visiting as well. Crawford is the only prospect out of the three who holds an offer from NC State.

In addition the Parkview trio, Jivan Baly also plans on visiting Tuesday. The priority cornerback prospect plays for Norcross (Ga.) Meadowcreek High and originally planned on visiting Wednesday, but he rescheduled and decided to drive up with Crawford, according to a source.
Baly will officially visit NC State June 23. Miami and Florida State are also likely official visit destinations, and the cornerback will stop by UNC Tuesday as well.

Matthews is a star in both football and basketball, and he recently visited Tennessee and Georgia. He has a June 17 visit set with USC.
This is the the receiver’s’s full scouting report from On3:
“Two-way playmaker with elite ball skills who has blossomed into one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2024 cycle. Measured at 6-foot-0.5, 185 pounds with a 6-foot-6 wing-span prior to his junior season. Lines up at both receiver and safety for Parkview High. Pairs that length with advanced coordination and hands to result in a considerable catch radius. Catches the ball away from his body and has shown the ability to win in contested situations on Friday nights and in 7-on-7 settings. A bouncy athlete who doubles as a standout basketball player in high school and on the AAU circuit. Still developing as a route-runner, but is showing progress as a junior. One of the top overall prospects from the state of Georgia regardless of class.”
On3 also compares him to former Minnesota star and first round NFL Draft pick Rashod Bateman.
“Mike Matthews’ coordinated athleticism and combination of route-running and ability to win at the catch point reminds us of fellow Georgia native, Rashod Bateman. Like Bateman, Matthews also doubles as a basketball star.”
