NC State arrived to this week in desperate need of two wins. The Wolfpack had lost three straight, and it needed to get back in the win column to save its NCAA tournament at-large hopes against two quality teams: Miami and Georgia Tech.

The Wolfpack (15-7, 7-4 ACC) was able to take care of business in both contests. It beat Miami 76-68 on Tuesday night before it used a second-half surge to knock off a streaky Georgia Tech squad 82-76 on Saturday evening. Though the Yellow Jackets have wins over the ACC’s top three NET teams, it would have been a back-breaking Quad 3 loss for the Pack, but it was able to overcome a 1-point halftime deficit to win the game in regulation.

NC State’s NET ranking is back on the upward trajectory. The Pack took a slide from No. 76 after the Virginia loss (which moved up three spots from 79) and then fell to No. 83 after its road defeat at Syracuse last week. But after its pair of wins, the Wolfpack sit at No. 77 in the NET with another pair of games on the horizon that have the opportunity to improve that number.

The Pack has nine games left to make some noise within the NCAA selection committee’s office, and more than half of them are Quad 1 contests. NC State has yet to win a Quad 1 game, and these down the stretch will be crucial for the team’s at-large hopes. Here’s a look at NC State’s team sheet at this moment (and we will have a new update to this each week until Selection Sunday).

Team sheet notes

– Most of NC State’s non-conference schedule remains Quad 4 wins. The Wolfpack’s eight non-ACC wins are in that category, which does not help its NCAA Tournament resume, other than the fact NC State avoided any painful losses in that stretch.

– NC State fans may become the biggest Virginia and Wake Forest supporters down the stretch in ACC play. The Pack boasts home wins over both squads, and needs those two teams to work their way into the NET top 30 to become Quad 1 victories. That would be very helpful in the Wolfpack’s NCAA tournament resume. Wake Forest is No. 41 and Virginia is No. 42 in Sunday’s edition of the rankings, so the top 30 is in reach for both teams.

Kevin Keatts‘ squad likely needed to win multiple Quad 1 games down the stretch to punch its ticket to the big dance. NC State has a Quad 1 opportunity at Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon, in what is likely one of the team’s more winnable games in that category. NC State beat the Demon Deacons 83-76 in mid-January, so that will likely give the team confidence going to Winston-Salem. Wake Forest, however, is 12-0 at home this season.

– NC State’s next contest is against Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. It’s a game the Wolfpack needs to win at PNC Arena since Quad 2 wins are helpful in strengthening an all-around resume for the NCAA tournament. The Panthers own a win at Duke earlier season, and they have won two straight (vs. Wake Forest and Notre Dame). This will be the first of two meetings between the two squads as NC State will close the season at Pitt, in what is likely to be its last Quad 1 chance before the ACC tournament.
