NCAA Résumé Watch: NC State still inside top 80 in the NET rankings

Well, NC State did not have much room for error the rest of the season and that shrunk even more with its home loss to Syracuse last Tuesday night. Now, the Wolfpack will likely be in must-win mode through the final four games on its schedule to set itself up for a possible NCAA at-large bid in a few weeks.

NC State’s NET ranking fell two spots from last week after it went 1-1 on the week. It beat Boston College, which allowed the Wolfpack to reenter the top 80 in the rankings and it checked it at 77th to begin this week of action.

The Pack has four games left to build an at-large résumé, and all but one are Quad 1 contests. NC State can try to build off of its Quad 1 win at Clemson from a couple weeks ago to impress the selection committee, and this final stretch will be critical for the team’s at-large hopes. Here’s a look at NC State’s team sheet at this moment (and we will have a new update to this each week until Selection Sunday).

Team sheet notes

– Most of NC State’s non-conference schedule remains Quad 4 wins. The Wolfpack’s eight non-ACC wins all fall in that category, which does not help its NCAA Tournament résumé, other than the fact NC State avoided any painful losses in that stretch.

– NC State needs Syracuse to keep winning down the stretch. The home loss to the Orange last week is a Quad 3 loss, but if Syracuse can move into the top 75, it would become a Quad 2 loss, which is easier to handle on the team sheet for the NET ranking. A Quad 3 loss is not helpful at all to have, and the Wolfpack had avoided one all season until this past week.

– Wake Forest’s win over Duke helped the Wolfpack immensely. The Demon Deacons are comfortably inside the top 30 now, which gives NC State its second Quad 1 win of the season. Should that hold, this would be the first season Kevin Keatts‘ squad has multiple wins in the top quadrant since the 2020 season (it was 4-5 in that department that season).

– The Wolfpack needs to win out if it wants to feel comfortable about its standing for a chance for an at-large selection into the NCAA Tournament. So far, it has two Quad 1 wins, but it could gain three more if the Wolfpack can win its final four games of the regular season.
