CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NC State thought its trip to the Queen City would last until the weekend. Instead, it was cut short in a Tobacco Road showdown, an 8-1 loss to Duke in pool play Thursday night at Truist Field. Although the Wolfpack will have to wait at least another year for its first league tournament championship since 1992, NC State can turn the page to the NCAA Tournament — looking for its third Men’s College World Series appearance under coach Elliott Avent.
