BREAKING: 3-star TE Preston Douglas flips from South Carolina to NC State
NC State spent this fall pushing for multiple tight ends committed elsewhere. Former South Carolina commit Preston Douglas decided he would rather spend his college career with the Pack and flipped his pledge Thursday afternoon.
The 6-3, 225-pound tight end prospect from Jupiter (Fla.) The Benjamin School has been a coveted recruit for NC State for months. He picked up an offer from the program Jan. 26. At the time, that was his first Power Four scholarship.
Douglas stopped by campus once in the spring and had an official visit scheduled before committing to South Carolina in June. His first trip to NC State left a positive impression before South Carolina surged to secure his initial commitment earlier this year.
“I really jelled with some of the coaches, and the campus was super nice,” Douglas said after visiting in March. “I liked the big school aspect of it.”
When he visited in March, the overall vibe around the people he spent time with really stuck out to the tight end recruit.

“They’re definitely super personable and nice, and they’ll tell you straight-up the truth, and that’s what I like. … They’re definitely a great staff. They definitely know what they’re doing with football considering they’re winning and producing NFL players,” Douglas said.
Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren visited his school in person in January right before offering. Offensive coordinator Robert Anae and wide receivers coach Joker Phillips both recruited him to NC State. Douglas will play the Flex-Y position, joining Gus Ritchey, who will play a traditional in-line role, in the Pack’s tight end class.
On3 considers the Wolfpack commit the No. 48 tight end in the country and the No. 118 recruit in Florida’s 2025 class. He also holds offers from Syracuse, Maryland and Indiana. The senior has recorded 16 catches for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns this season, racking up 11 tackles and 3 sacks as well defensively.
NC State now holds 18 commitments in the 2025 class. The Pack ranks No. 40 nationally and No. 8 in the ACC.
